Introduction

Knowledge about a country’s history and geography will assist an international marketer to build an understanding of how people perceive themselves and how and why individual act towards a given product. For instance, China as my country of choice for this assignment could have a different perception and reaction towards a given product. The country is located in Southeast Asia, and it is the third largest after Canada and Russia. In regards to its size, there is a possibility of having a large population which is an important aspect of marketing products (Balla, 2012). However, according to US commercial service, China is a challenging place to do business due to its regulations and policies. The paper will describe China’s openness to international trade in regards to its history and geographical location.

Location Description of China

China is situated in Asia along the coastline of Pacific Ocean. It is the world’s largest country after Canada and Russia in terms of size. In addition, it has an area of about 9.5 million square kilometers and a coastline of 14,500 kilometers. For instance, towards the north, it reaches Mohe, towards the south it reaches Zengmu Ansha, towards to the west it reaches Pamirs and extends to the eastern borders Amur River and Wusuli River (Chai, 2013). Moreover, it borders features such as border Sea, Yellow Sea, and Korea Bay to the east. The geographic coordinates are 3500 North and 10500 East. Based on this, it is evident that China location is important for the performance of most businesses around.

Brief History

China’s rapid economic growth over the past years is one of the most intriguing examples of opening an economy for international markets. Through this period, China has shifted from an agricultural community to an industrial to an industrial powerhouse. In light of this, the country has seen a steady increase in output production which have enabled it to become the world’s second. The country has opened up its market to international trade through export and import. Therefore, it is evident that from the previous years, the country has increased its international outreach and participation in global organizations.

For years China has maintained as a number one civilization, outdoing other countries in arts and sciences. However, in the 19th and 20th centuries, it experienced civil unrest and political instability after the Second World War disrupting most of its activities. Immediately after the Second World War, the communist party of China under MAO created an autocratic socialists system that while making sure China impose strict regulations affecting a majority of its citizens. After 1978, the leaders majored on market-oriented economic development resulting in a greater output by the year 2000. For the population, the living standards have advanced significantly, but the political system remained tight.

Demographics

China is the world’s most populous nation with a population of about 1.3 billion people. Due to its robust economic development, it may soon come to the world’s largest economy. The country represents about 20% of the world’s population which is important in the marketing of products within its locality. In addition, out of this population, China has more than 160 million migrants who are seeking for more opportunities which have added to its increasing labor force for the nation’s growing economy (Du & Yang, 2014). The country also has more than 160 million Chinese who are 60 years and above while more than 160 million people Chinese between the ages of 0-30. It is evident that China has a robust growing population globally which makes a potential market for most international business.

In regards to income, China has improved rapidly to be the second after the United States of America. In the previous year, China’s GDP grew 6.8% within the first half. During the first half of the previous year, it attained an income of $6 Trillion. Due to this, Asia’s economic giant contributes 14.8% of the world’s economy compared to 24.3% of the US. The country provides a good environment for most international business because of its growing income. This is an indication that majority of its citizens gets a good income and can purchase a product (Van Marrewijk, 2017). According to research, about 96% of China’s population are literature hence are able to understand and use the current technology. This can be confirmed by the rapid innovation that has emerged from the Country in building a modern road, electronics, and other fields.

Conclusion

It is important to understand the country’s history, geography, population and literacy for a successful performance of a product. China has been an economic powerhouse based on its robust operations and growing population that provides labor and market for most businesses. With a population of about 1.3 Billion and a rising literacy level, it is anticipated that the country can overtake the US and becomes the world best economy. As my Country of choice, it provides a good environment for the marketing of products and cheap labor. Therefore, Netflix Company upon entry will have access to the booming market due to a high population which provides a ready market for most products.
