Follow the uploaded files materials on writing the mini review paper: mini review guidelines and grading rubric, example of mini review paper, and outline for mini review. cite at least 10 articles from peer-reviewed journals which are relevant to the selected topic. Make sure there is relevant chemistry throughout paper including introduction. Paper should be written in acs style and citation should be in acs style. Make sure there is chemistry behind 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine
Mini Review Guidelines and Grading Rubrics
Mini review covers the current research and its recent developments. They are very useful if you want to learn about a specific area of research. Besides presenting the current and the previous research data, they also stress the research gaps and offer future perspectives. So, students, if you want to learn about specific research, find the latest review on that subject matter!
Your final task in this course is to write your first mini review. If you are already involved in research or did it before, choose the same research area. If you never researched at NEIU (or another institution), the mini review writing is an excellent opportunity to learn about research that interests you.
Format for a mini review
Your mini review should contain:
- Title page
The title page contains the title of your mini review, your name, and the institution’s complete name and address (NEIU). The title should be short, without abbreviations. Your email should be listed.
The abstract should be approximately 200-250 words. You should give a clear summary of the review paper, the major studies results, and conclusions. Do not add references to the abstract!
The introduction will give a broader rationale for choosing the specific topic (new drugs, new nano-formulations etc.). You should provide a brief history of the research and layout of what is in this mini review.
- The main body of the paper
You can have sub-topics. For example, if you are writing about new ways to deliver drugs in the nanoparticulate form, you can write about other nanoformulations that are published or available on the market.
Abbreviations can be used after the abbreviation is defined the first time when it is used in the text. The abbreviations for some common chemicals, like DMSO or MetOH, need not to be defined.
Figures are valuable part of your minireview. Figures should have a title below, sometimes a short description of what is in the figure and must always be referenced unless you made a figure. Figures should be numbered consecutively in the text. The best place to put the figure is after it has been mentioned for the first time in the review.
Briefly explain a rationale for choosing the research for a mini review, summarize the most important findings, and predict future directions in the field.
Use the American Chemical Society (ACS) referencing style. Please read the ACS guide to scholarly publications to learn how to use the ACS citation style. If you prefer another style (10 points less), be consistent.
Mini review formatting
- Use 8.5×11 inch paper size
- Spacing throughout should be 1.5
- One inch for left and right margin
- Text typed in Times New Roman, 12 point
Please read NEIU Student Code of Conduct. You should know that instructors have Plagiarism programs, and we always use them to check submitted assignments.
Good luck students with your first minireview! I cannot wait to read it!
Please refer to the table below for grading rubrics.

|Content of mini review||210 points Mini review presents the scientific data of currently high importance. The review is well organized, and all requirements for a mini review are fulfilled. The spelling and grammar are correct.||180 points Mini review presents scientific data that are not currently of high importance. Most of the requirements for a mini review are fulfilled. The spelling and grammar are correct.||150 points Mini review presents scientific data that are not of high importance. The students fulfilled only 50-70 % of the requirements for a mini review. Not all spelling/grammar is correct.|
