Introduction

Throughout the world, education is regarded as a key factor in economic growth and overall performance. In the US, education is highly valued, but teachers who are responsible for educating the children are not valued that much. According to the labor statistic report, the average teacher salary in the US is about $41,000. Various professional organizations have raised their concerns on raising teachers’ pay to match their fellow partners in other professions. According to Podgursky (2011) teachers are handling an important docket within the society hence should be paid more. However, other professional journals have also questioned whether increasing teacher’s salary should be based on increased skills. Through this controversy, I have learned that as an educational leader, it is important to develop value and passion for carrying different tasks. The paper will address the controversy in the teacher’s salaries.

Various professional organizations are pushing for the increase in teachers’ salaries. According to the Center for American Progress (CAP), teacher’s compensation should reflect the value of their work in the country (Miles, Pennington & Bloom, 2015). Globally, education is highly valued as a source of economic development for future generations. That said, it is apparent that all profession beginning from politicians, doctors, artists and engineers among others, at one point passed through the hand of a teacher. They developed their professional career with the aid of a teacher. According to the National Education Association, teachers are working more hours compared to their counterparts in other fields, yet they still earn less. Research conducted indicate that most of the teachers have enrolled in other part-time jobs in order to get some money to supplement their budget.
