Assignment brief

Structure : Introduction must also include name of company (Tesco), name of country (Indonesia)

Four main sections

  1. An evaluation of current HR strategies and practices within the organisation (25 marks)

This section needs to include:

  • name of HR practises of Tesco
  • analyse culture of England – use any relevant culture models (e.gThe Globe Project), put the diagram and scores(this can be in  table)

  • An assessment of environmental and cultural factors that the organisation should take into account when entering the target market (25 marks)

This section needs to include:

  • Analyse Culture of Indonesia – use any relevant culture models (e.g The Globe Project), put the diagram and scores (this can be in table)

  • Comparison, similarities and differences of the two cultures (England and Indonesia). This can be in table.
  • Clear recommendations to the organisation as to how to implement HR strategies effectively within the target country culture (25 marks)

This section needs to include:

  • Recommendations – how does Indonesia culture affects the way HR practice should be conducted. In other words, how does Indonesia culture affect the way we should practice HR. For example, recruitment, performance management, training and development (must include all three)
  • An evaluation of the change management issues involved in developing new HR strategies and practices within the target country organisation (25 marks) 

This needs to be include and address:  

  • The issues of change – take a change model and apply it to how you think HR needs to be done in Indonesia. For example, Kotter Model
  • Kotter model (there are 8 steps), discuss each and how it affects HR in Indonesia.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW:

Following the presentation that you have already submitted for the Task 1 Interim assessment, you are now required to write an individual report for this Task 2 Final Assessment. You should address this for submission to the HR Director outlining the HR strategies that you have identified and making recommendations as to how the new HR strategies should be implemented regarding the new joint venture. This new venture requires relocation of UK staff who will need to adjust to a different way of working and the report should refer to principles of change management.

Note: As in Task 1, to enable differentiated reports for this assessment, your module tutor will ask you to identify your chosen organisation and the international market in which you plan to set up your joint venture and you should make this clear in your introduction. If there is duplication, your tutor will discuss an appropriate change to the focus of your research.

TASK 2 – INDIVIDUAL REPORT:

In the role of HR Manager, you are required to write an individual report that presents an overview of your selected organisation’s will HR strategies and practices and the impact that national cultural factors have on the proposed new initiative with the joint venture partner. You should also refer to the management of the change which will be required by employees if these recommendations are accepted and how that might be approached.

Your report should be written, for the HR Director, in a business format – including title, contents page, executive summary, introduction, main body,  recommendations/ conclusions and appendices (if required) – with in-text citations and bibliographic references (minimum 12–15) to support/provide evidence for the arguments you present.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

This assignment is designed to assess the following learning outcomes – critically. Taking the above elements into account, these are the criteria against which your submission will be measured.

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the academic development of HRM within a rapidly changing international context, synthesising theory and practice with respect to the application of HRM to the management of organisations (LO1)

2. Recognise the role HRM has to play in the sustainable and changing strategic development of an organisation, nationally, internationally and globally (LO2)

3. Apply and evaluate a range of international HRM practices and procedures and how they impact on change management (LO3)
