The Supply Chain Report

Silverson products currently dominate the overall local market for cosmetics which is approximated to be 34% of the market value of the entire system (Swafford, page 170-188). The products manufactured here are almost in all the supermarkets globally. This medium indicates the market strength of this company to reach both the local and international products. The products manufactured here are the same perfume deodorants, the shampoo, nail polish and other products. Due to the availability of the product, we were chosen to find out about the supply chain of the products. Moreover, how they work to make sure that the products are safe for the products and how the products reach the customers and perhaps what they do I keeping the environment safety since the products involve the use of chemicals and probably the waste products are also included. The supply chain process begins at the production level and goes on to logistics and marketing process and other services like customer services. Due to these, we managed to visit the company as a team and perhaps we got and learned about the enterprise. The team and the management were very cooperative, and this made the process easy and efficient.

Findings and observations

The procurement process begins in the purchasing of raw materials before the manufacturing can begin (Chen, page 467-482). The purchasing manager told us that the raw material mainly used in the process is the acetyl alcohol and stearic acid and others like oil-water which they can make it their laboratories. The company is so privileged to have the raw materials within their reach without spending so much on the purchase of raw material. The materials like the active ingredients go through some mixing process with emulsifies and various stabilizers such as veegum which then makes the desired product. The production chambers were full of different activities, and the workers were very busy with the various kinds of work, some operating the machines, others packing while some officials were watching and perhaps controlling the whole operation.

From the production site, we went to the inventory department and had a discussion with the manager who made us understand the role in the company. The department’s controls or rather manage both the inventory and stock of the enterprise. The department involves overseeing the ordering of the inventory and perhaps managing the inventory, and checking the storage of stock and lastly then controlling some the products for sale. The company has the modern techniques for performing inventory services like the development of the inventory software to monitor and make the whole process efficient and perhaps effective. The stock inventory controls the purchasing of stock to make sure that the company does not overspend that might lead to some additional losses. Most of the companies do have this department growing in skills like the one in this department which grows each day regarding developing new techniques of doing inventory. The inventory unit surprisingly had a team of software developers to promote the process and make it more efficient (Christopher, page 35).

Warehousing department is responsible for the storage of company’s goods. The company has the warehouse for both the raw materials and for the produced products. The silverson products are kept in the best storage which has never seen before; the team was surprised to find such an organized storehouse with various shelves having different cosmetic products. The polished nail products were placed in a separate warehouse and others the same. The company had about eight stores each having a separate item or products hence avoiding confusion. Moreover, the manager had several records of the products for the past 20 years since the beginning of the company (Melo, page 401-412). The records are necessary for the inventory department to make the decision concerning the flow of the products from the company to the customers. The walking in the warehouse was so beautiful and the aroma was unforgettable.

The supply chain is the whole department from the production and to the flow of the product from the company to the customers at the point of consumption. The team managed to meet up with the head of the supply chain of the whole process from the raw material to the consumer selling point. We learned that the primary objectives of the process are to make sure that the products are available to the clients and are in the market at the right time. The other role is to ensure that the products are safe and are made according to the customer’s expectations to catch the loyalty of the client’s. The process involves a lot of activities to keep and ensure that the products are flowing from one point to another (Michael, page 623-629). The other main role of the departments is to make sure that the goods are friendly to the environment. To ensure this the management told we that they had developed various means and methods of making sure those effluents from the industries do not affect the environment.

The company has placed some recycling projects and a plan to make use of the waste materials that comes as a result of the production process are taken care of and converts them into something useful again. These means have made sure that the waste products coming from the company have been controlled. Apart from this, the company is also involving their suppliers with the environmental initiative and agendas to make sure that the environment is taken care of effectively. The process includes various screening methods and providing training programs with the environmental concern to affect them with the best knowledge and skills about the importance of the making the environment clean and how to make it safe.

The company had the best machines and equipment that makes them be at the top of the others who are involved in the production of the same cosmetic products (securing, page1699-1710). The company as we observed has a clean environment, and they are trying to make sure that the products are safe for the client consumption. However, I would like to say that the company should ensure that the employees’ health is taken care of since the workers were handling harmful chemicals without using protective clothing like the overalls, gloves and other safety materials. Another thing is the company to make sure that they make a follow up for the client after they have bought the products. This medium can be done by seeking feedbacks from the supermarkets and the suppliers and get the customer’s response.

We managed to move across the whole company department and found the whole process of the supply chain. The process was so interactive, and we talked with various team managers who revealed the information about supply chain.
