This is what the discussion is about : – There have been renewed calls this year to defund or abolish the police in the wake of continued violence. In response, Mayor Garcetti reduced LAPD’s budget by $150 million dollars for the next fiscal year. In addition, voters approved Measure J to reallocate funds and require that 10% of the city’s general fund be allocated to direct community investment and alternatives to incarceration.
These are the questions that are supposed to be answered: – What do you think reform should look like, and is defunding the answer? (Please be specific in highlighting the most important areas of concern, as well as offer a specific policy solutions.) Do you think that the two measures mentioned above will be effective? State why or why not. (I recommend you do some quick research on what those two actions mean in terms of the city budget as a whole.) Name 1 or 2 city agencies/departments/programs that you think deserve reallocated funds, and why expanded funding would help address the issues we see today in our criminal justice system. (Learning what the mission of the agenciiques and programs are would help!)
