Explore a social policy that addresses ONE of the following social problems in Canada: gender income/earnings gaps, homelessness, institutional racism, income inequalities, transgender rights, or high incarceration rates of indigenous people in Canada.
You can discuss a proposed or potential social policy or a policy that is already in place. While your focus should be Canadian society, you can compare social policies and/or use an example from a country other than Canada. For the purposes of this essay, we will define social policy as a policy that is used by a government to address a social problem. The policy could be at the national, provincial, or municipal levels of government. You must use our textbook (SOC+, 4th Edition – Robert Brym) and TWO additional sociological sources, ONE of which must be a recent sociology journal article. Any article published since January 2015 will be considered recent. You should limit your search to sociology journals or to interdisciplinary journals that list sociology as one of the disciplines included in the journal. Your third source could be a journalistic source, a book, a book chapter, a website, or another journal article. Avoid personal websites, blogs etc. or online sources where it is difficult to assess the qualiiquty and accuracy of the information.
